![]() As a disc it is whacked in so many ways, often banned from distance competitions, and one of those discs that allow a certain subset of disc golfers - who in general are already different - to be even MORE different than the rest.įlies best when thrown by players with complicated psychological issues. Other Epic oddities: won’t hold permanent marker, floats on water, flies farther into headwind. The only time you’ll ever see the Epic 2 or 3 or SuperEpic is in the Marshall Street Newsletter, and only in the April 1 edition. In between it turns all the way around on an imaginary axis in my non-mathematical mind. In other words, you throw it upside-down and it finishes, if thrown correctly, upside-down. Another unusual aspect of the Aerobie Epic Driver is that it can corkscrew 360 degrees. Epic throwers throw overhead, period, and very far. The other difference about the Epic is that it flies best when thrown upside-down. Glow balls, lightweight rubbery discs for kids and dogs, a really excellent top, some golf discs, other strange toys.Īerbie’s most important golf disc is the Epic, with a concentric rim that’s wider on one side than the other. When thrown lefty they resemble a bird shot in mid-flight. These only work if thrown with a righty overhand. Pretty sure they don’t mean stability the way we mean stability, which we use, depending on our level of play, as a synonym for overstable OR understable OR that stable thing that’s between the two.Īerobie became a whole company with a bunch of other stuff sold around the world: a smaller flying ring called the Sprint Ring, along with a combination ring/boomerang called the Orbiter that is hilariously exhausting and hard to control and generally, especially in stiff wind, winds up suspended high on roofs and in trees.Īerobie also makes Nerf footballs with fins. The outer rim has a spoiler designed to impart stability.” “Designed in 1984 by Stanford engineering lecturer Alan Adler, the Aerobie has a polycarbonate core with soft rubber bumpers molded onto the inner and outer rims. ![]() ![]() These houses are 3 stories, so the attic is either non-existent (flat roofs), or 2 stories up. The whole house is gutted, and they've hard vented the laundry rooms, all the baths, etc, just not this kitchen sink. I don't know in his case, I didn't trace it down to see why they couldn't vent it. Only wye is where i split the 2" riser into two 1.5" lines, there shouldn't be any problem with that, right? The red dots in the sketch are AAVs, the yellow dot a 2" cleanout, the blue lines P-traps, and of course santees to tie in. So, whether or not you would do it personally, is there any code/safety/practical (other than extra work and materials) reason to not do what I've drawn below, to meet his requirements? I'm not a huge fan of AAVs myself - prefer to do real venting when possible, so maybe having 2 of them will help increase their effectiveness? Especially when the D/W, sink, and disposal are all dumping into the drain line at the same time? Or potentially reduce the chance of a clog if one of them fails? I can definitely see how my first design would fail now - thanks for showing me that those are indeed S-traps - but that doesn't change the fact that my inspector will probably fail me if I don't do 2 AAVs. This either is or is not one of them, but my inspector specifically said I can't do a sanitary cross with an AAV above it b/c I had to have 2 AAVs. I'm not trying to make it more complicated, but Pittsburgh is known for adding ridiculous extra rules to the code. I would love to do a standard, conventional hookup - really I would. Sorry my town is crazy and likes to complicate things. is the cleanout required/necessary since you could run down through the AAV, or is it more of a convenience thing (lower, easier to get to)? I've got no problem adding that, might as well do things the best way possible while I'm tearing it apart, just curious about code requirements. So, do I split the drain and treat it as 2 separate drain lines coming up, each serving one bowl of the sink, as if they were 2 separate single bowl sinks? Is there any other way to get 2 AAVs in there? One last question. I don't like to argue with inspectors, I tend to find that it makes my life more difficult. I would normally do what Terry has posted with either an AAV or preferably a vent, but he wants 2 AAVs. So, none of the pictures/descriptions above work to meet that requirement. Not sure if that applies all the time, or just in the AAV case, or just b/c the inspector felt like it in this case, but thats what he wants. When he said I could do the AAV, he said that a sanitary cross (i meant to say cross in first post, not double wye) with an AAV above it is not legal here, and that I had to have separate AAVs for each bowl. The inspector was fairly gracious (didn't have to fight for it, he just let me do it) in allowing me to use AAVs in this case, but made me put in a vent in another location where venting was fairly difficult, but more feasible. Many of the city people should be asking if you want fries with that. Wally - haha, I dunno if its him or the city on this, but I know the city is nuts about a lot of things. Rich, I came across that website actually as I was trying to find information about this, but as this requirement is either odd to Pittsburgh or to my specific inspector, there doesn't seem to be anything about what I'm being asked to do. ![]() Thank you for helping me there Terry, I researched it more after you told me that. Also missing, of course, was Jessica’s mom’s “Four Winds” travel agency sign that was displayed on the home’s front porch in the movie. I am fairly certain that it was never truly a part of the house, but was a prop that was brought in solely for the filming. And I am happy to report that Jessica’s house still looks very much the same today as to how it appeared onscreen in Sleepless, which is pretty darn amazing being that filming took place over 17 years ago! Sadly, though, the mailbox where Jessica and Jonah mailed Annie’s letter is not there in real life. After putting the forged letter in Jessica’s mailbox, the two sit on her front porch and wait for the mailman to come pick it up.Įven though the home appeared only once, and very briefly at that, I was still absolutely floored over seeing it in person because, as I’ve mentioned before, Sleepless in Seattle is one of my very favorite movies of all time. The exterior of Jessica’s house was actually only featured in one very brief scene in Sleepless in Seattle in which BFF’s Jonah and Jessica mail a letter to Annie Reed (aka Meg Ryan) which they have written on behalf of Jonah’s father, Sam Baldwin (aka Tom Hanks). YAY! So, I immediately put the home high up on my must-stalk-while-in-Seattle-list and could NOT have been more excited about seeing it! David had spent quite a bit of time trying to find the house on his own without much luck, so thankfully the West Seattle Blog readers offered to lend a hand and through some amazing detective work came up with the right address. He found the locale after posting an inquiry on this area filming locations thread on the West Seattle Blog website. Fellow stalker David, who I had the pleasure of meeting and doing some stalking with during my brief three-day vacation, managed to track down Jessica’s house just about a week before I headed up to the Pacific Northwest. One of the locations that I was most excited about stalking while visiting Seattle this past May was the home where Jonah Baldwin’s (aka Ross Malinger’s) best friend Jessica (aka Gaby Hoffman) lived in fave movie Sleepless in Seattle. The Iowa Delta Chapter of The Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity was rechartered at The Renaissance Savery Hotel in Des Moines, Iowa on Novemwith 64 members. Growth has been substantial since the colony's founding and with a new chapter house at 1243 34th Street SigEp re-established itself as one of Drake's premier fraternities. On February 14, 2000, 15 men re-colonized Drake University as the new Sigma Phi Epsilon Iowa Delta SEC Colony. However, local alumni kept active in Drake University events, and after four years, worked with the national fraternity to re-colonize. In May 1996, Sigma Phi Epsilon's Iowa Delta Chapter closed its doors. The chapter continued to thrive through the 1970s and 1980s, but following national trends, the chapter suffered from the losses in Greek numbers in the late 1980s and early 1990s. The 1950s and 1960s brought high times for the fraternity, and it grew to be Drake's most prominent fraternity. Sigma Phi Epsilon colonized at Drake University in the late 1940s, and the Iowa Delta chapter received its charter on May 9th, 1948. Chi Delta members who left the fraternity to serve their country during World War II returned to the campus after the war to re-establish the chapter.Īt the time, it was felt that in order to be competitive as a fraternity, the chapter should seek a charter from a national fraternity. This chapter thrived during the first half of the 20th Century and was the oldest fraternity on the Drake University campus. When it was discovered that a national fraternity was already using the same Greek letters, the name was flip flopped and changed to Chi Delta. Despite the ban, the club was secretly known as Delta Chi. Chi Delta was originally established as The Dirk's Club in 1898 because, at the time, Greek-letter fraternities were banned at Drake University. Through vital leadership conferences and institutions such as Carlson Leadership Academy, the Ruck Leadership Institute, Tragos Quest to Greece, Life After College, and Conclave, valuable professional, leadership, and organizational skills are learned and developed.ĭrake SigEp began as a local fraternity known as Chi Delta at the end of the 19th Century. Our mission is “Building Balanced Men,” which is achieved through a commitment to Sound Mind and Sound Body. SigEp was founded with the Cardinal Principles of Virtue, Diligence and Brotherly Love. These members are nominated and elected by Grand Chapter at Conclave. We are also headed by 12 volunteer members on the National Board of Directors, responsible to the Grand Chapter for operation of the Fraternity. Sigma Phi Epsilon is headed by over 50 staff and full-time professionals at the Zollinger house in Richmond, Virginia. More than 49 chapters are designated as Residential Learning Communities for their efforts to work with faculty members to create unique academic programming for their brothers. Nationally, SigEp leads all fraternities in the nation with the highest GPA (above a 3.0). SigEp has also continued to stand out within the Greek world by working to partner with higher education institutions. SigEp revolutionized the fraternity movement in 1991 by unveiling the Balanced Man Program (BMP), a concept of single-tiered membership and continuous development that begins the day a brother joins. SigEp is also the first to organize an education foundation with an endowment greater than $12 million. SigEp was the first national fraternity to establish a housing trust for all chapters and create a national housing corporation. Sigma Phi Epsilon, indeed, has been different than any other fraternal organization since its beginning, continually paving the way for others to follow. ![]() We will change the name to Sigma Phi Epsilon.” The number of members will be increased from the undergraduate classes. “This fraternity will be different, it will be based on the love of God and the principle of peace through brotherhood. Carter Ashton Jenkens desired to be a part of a group of men, determined to make a difference. Our fraternity was founded on November 1st, 1901, in Richmond, Virginia at Richmond College campus. Sigma Phi Epsilon is the nation’s largest fraternity, with over 15,000 undergraduate members, dedicated to leading change and making a difference.
